THREE INTERESTING CUSTOMS IN VIETNAM

February 4, 2010 · Leave a Comment

In Vietnam, we have a lot of customs which have remained from generation to generation. Among these custom, there are three important things: buying yellow chrysanthemums in the Lunar New Year, tao mo and cung gio.Tao  mo is the custom that all family members visit their ancestor’graves on the last day of every lunar year. Then they clean and decorate the graves as carefully as people do for their house. People do this regularly because people want their ancestors to be able to welcome the New Year. Cung gio is the anniversary of ancestors’death. During that day, descendants and relatives gather in order to prepare a feast to worship the dead person. This is the good occasion for descendants and relatives to express their gratitude to their ancestors. Vietnamese believe that the soul of dead people can have an effect on their life. Whether they can receive luck or not, which depends on the way express their gratitude to their ancestors. Therefore , tao mo and cung gio are very important for Vietnamese every year.

Every year in the Lunar New Year, Vietnamese people enjoy the pleasure of showcasing colorful flowers. Yellow chrysanthemums show a distinctive beauty in both color and fragrance. The vivid yellow and gentle fragrance drives many families to decorate their house with chrysanthesum, which they arrange in vases or have in pots at the front door to welcome the new year. The chrysanthemum is also symbolic of a composed and unpretentious lifestyle. It is favored on Tet holidays to wish for a harmonious and happy family. The bright yellow of clusters of chrysanthemums represents confidence and hope for a new year. A chrysanthemum vase put in the house seems to bring a cozy feeling to the family.

Birth-Rate in Vietnam

January 31, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The more country develops, the more inportant rising birth-rate becomes. Nowadays, Vietnam is one of the nations has high birth-rate and crowded population all over the world.According to the statistics in 2008, it shows that currently Vietnam has 86.5 million people, ranking 13th in the world and the density of 227 persons per square kilometre. The government has many efforts to reduce the birth-rate by many policies. But are they really effective? Moreover, how does this population boom affact to our country such as standard of living, education, unemployment…? These questions are anwsered in this our report. In addition, our group will give you some solutions to restrict this fact and its effects.

To understand this report obviously, we restate the definition of birth-rate: The ratio of total live births to total population in a specified community or area over a specified period of time. The birthrate is often expressed as the number of live births per 1,000 of the population per year. The General Department of Population reports that by October 2008, approximately 95,000 third babies were born in 43 provinces and cities and the figure is estimated to rise to 142,000 by the year’s end. This means the number of the third child increased by 13.8 percent against in 2007.By April 1, 2009, Vietnam had 85.789 million people, of which 49.5 percent were men and 50.5 percent women. Vietnam is the third most-populated country in Southeast Asia and 13th in the world, announced the General Statistics Office’s chief Nguyen Duc Hoa on August 13. According to the General Statistics Department, in the last ten years (1999-2009), Vietnam’s population increased by 9.47 million, at an annual population growth rate of 1.2 percent, compared to 1.7 percent in the 1989-1999 period.

This is the data of bith rate in Vietnam from 2003 to 2008. (Source: CIA World Factbook – December 18, 2008).

This birth-rate reflects the population in Vietnam which is indicated in the below table:

The table shows that the population in Vietnam has continuously increased over years, but the ratio of increasing population decreased.

Why does the birth-rate in Vietnam increase again? There are some reasons can explain for that fact. The Vietnamese government has issued policies to restrict bith-rate such as “one or two children” policy in 17/1/1997. And in reallity, these policies help our country reduce the birth-rate considerablely. From the avarage of birth-rate is 2,7% in the years before 1997, it was decreased into 1,6% in period 1997-2002 before increasing again in 2003. Although we got some achievements in deducing birth-rate, the population is still high. So, what are the reasons of this problem?  In my opinion, there are 3 basic reasons we can easily see.

First, as you know, the economy of Vietnam bases on the agriculture, so it involves a big labour force. Moreover, our country has more than 50% labour force operate in this field and most of them want to have many children to improve the productivity in producing agriculture. Because of their wrong thinking, it makes the population enhance.

Second, because of fogyish custom, most of couple in Vietnam likes a boy rather than a girl. The popular case is that many couples had two or three daughters (even more than), but they still try to seek a son. Another situation of fogyish custom is that Vietnamese believe that if they born in a good year (depend on their belief), their baby and family will be luckier and happier. For instance, the “race” was born in the “golden pig” (2006) has started on the destination. According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien – Director of Production Hospital Women Surgeons, 10 years of hospital indicators than in the previous year are increased by 15-20%. For example, in 2000 with about 10,000 live births in the hospital and 2006 this number had reached 18,000 live births in 2007 and is expected to grow to more than 20,000 live births. Hospitals have seen before because of the overload from late 2006 to examine pregnant women has increased suddenly and far too serious load of women to birth children. While conditions facilities, equipment, human resources without improving but there are too many live births that is the mean hospital try to have to bear the burden overwhelmed.

Finally, sex education in our country is not popular enough. Because of lacking education, they don’t know the disadvantages of having many children such as reducing conditions in studying, worse standard of living …  Besides, the trend of pregnancies and abortions is a symptom of teenagers’ ignorance of sexual matters. ”Sexual health care among adolescents today is not a cause for great optimism,” said Pham Song, chair man of the Vietnam Family Planning Association.

Coming back the question “why did the birth-rate increase again in 2003?”. There are many disputations about this problem. Most policticians supposed that art 1, provision 10 in Family Planning Law says that “Each couples, inviduals has the right to dicide the number of baby…” make citizen misunderstand. This article means that the husband and the wife have equal right to decide the number of baby (not depend on the husband). But people understand in a wrong way that they can decide the number of baby. So, that fact is considered as a big reason makes birth-rate go up again in 2003.

Because of high birth-rate in Vietnam, in my opinion, I suggest some solutions to solve that problem. First, we need to improve the population policy to make it fit the present situation such as applying high penalties to punish families, individuals break the law. For example: We must clearly define that each family just only have one or two children. But if their child died in war, they could have the third child. If a civil servant has the third child, they will be cut off all reward and lose some interest. Second, we need to improve citizen’s awareness about sex from the small age such as: teaching sex education in high school because teen pregnancy is one reason that makes the birthrate goes high. If teenagers have a good educate about sex, this problem absolutely can be solved.

In addition, we should show them the disadvantage of having too much children:

* The first disadvantage is financial problem. Too much children mean less money for take care their children. Children cannot go to school. So children future will not ensure.

* The second disadvantage is social problem.

The rise of social evils like: stealing, rape, drug…

High population is a reason of starvation.

Accommodation is one of the tough problems.

Health care is not ensuring. Our country is not have enough doctor

The birthrate must fit with rate of industry grow. We need to transfer from agriculture to industry gradually. Modernize agriculture is one step can’t be pass to decrease labour and increase productivity.

SOCIAL NETWORKING

January 29, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Recent research shows that the impact of the social networking is more strongly than we could imagine. It has changed the way we speak, the way we interact and the way we think. Although there are many benefits to social networking online, it also include dangers that you should aware to protect yourself.

This is not the first time you heard the word” Social networking”, but perhaps you are not quite sure what it means. Social networking is web-based service, with a large community. Although social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, it is most popular online with websites. In these sites, people can create an account after accept some conditions from the web service. By using the account, the users can access to their website and use the website as their own places to share common interest in hobbies, culture, knowledge and make new friends. From the idea that people want to make the connection with their friends by using the Internet, in 1995, an earlt Social Network was borned, Classmates. This was created to connect the students in school, or class, so the early users of this site ware only the students or teenagers. In 1997, “SixDegree.com” was released. The users of this sites can edit their profile, send a message and be friends with strange people from the site. Lately, many Social Networks have developed and released,  Cyworld (2001), Friendster (2002), Skyblog (2002). Myspace, Orkut, Yahoo 360, and Facebook were the popular Networking Sites until now. Myspace and Facebook have more than 300 million of users nowadays (from the nytimes.com)

Social Networking is a good connection that help connect people together. In fact, it  affects every individual in our social. People use Social Networks with different ways, someone want to use for keeping in touch with their friends, other one use the sites for studying, finding the information, or maybe use it to find friends from the Internet. Whatever they use Social Networking in their own way, it will affects to themselves, especially, cultures, living style, and their thinking.

Social networking have changed the traditional friend relationship. Today when we make new friends, we are more likely to ask “What is your Facebook?” or “Do you have a blog?” instead of  asking to know the phone number. Living in a modern life, everybody is very busy with their jobs. Time is a problem to them, so they use social network to keep in touch with their friends and family. The structure of Networking sites allow users can make new friends, and update information from their friends whenever they get some news such as entries, status, and so on.

People who are the users of Social Networks can study much from their own sites. Social Networking can educate the teenagers.  They use social networks to share their feeling, knowledge and their friend will read it and evaluate it. The interesting thing about these sites is that you can develop an online friendship with some one in other country around the world. Not only will you make new friends, but you just might learn a thing or two about new cultures or new languages and learning is always a good thing

People living in extreme corners of the world are seen to be getting married, friends from far-off places are able to keep in touch with each other and lovers from two parts of the world stay connected with each other’s emotional needs. These help us make new friends, stay in touch with the old ones and let us know more about the persons we care

Data theft and viruses is some dangers asociated with the social network. Moreover, teenagers are really the problems for using Social Networking; some bad people can use social noetwork for their bad behavior. Flirting with strangers online could have serious consequences. Because some people lie about who they really are, you never really know who you’re dealing with. Therefore, be wary if a new online friends want to meet you in person. Meet in the public place if you are decided to accept the invitation

Myspace and Facebook have become be very popular with young users; and now, those Networking Sites are continuing to develop, they get much users than any other social sites got before. These sites are trying to find the best way to make their websites easily to use and safely. By developing the applications for the Social Networks, we will protect the user from predators or criminals. The software can determine whether the users are criminals or not by scan their entries, and analyze all the information of the users that they are doubt.

Social networking sites actually appears to reduce loneliness and improve well-being. As for social networking sites being a poor alternative to real-world socializing, surveys reported at a conference in 2006 indicate that Facebook users mostly use it to maintain relationships with people they meet offline.
Social networks are now developing very steady, the users of Social networks are up to millions, and it will get up more. So we need to develop Social network in the positive way.

Charity

January 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The term charity has become so familiar with us; we often hear someone, some non-profit organization or some government agency asking us to do charity to helping other people who have a miserable circumstance. We do charity because we sympathize; somehow we want to share their burden as much as we can, some case do charity just for advertisement, just for fun, or just to avoiding a bad image of stingy people. However, we should note that everything has two sides, charity has no exception.

We must admit that no matter how much the society has developed, whenever or wherever, there was always have a gap between the rich and poor people. So, when the gap too large, the disaster occurs, or something that make the life of someone become so hard, so difficult to overcome, a charity happened. Ironically, people who need charity take a majority population. Indeed, a charity is necessary, it somehow helps maintain the balance of dividing resources among people, it help miserable people to overcome those hard time, move on to live, to believe that they aren’t alone anymore.

On the other hand, some may take advantage of charity; they may use this term to benefit themselves instead of the poor people. It makes a charity people no longer believe in the effectiveness of any charity program and the suffering people who really need charity feel insult, being hurt by those selfish action. Gradually, the term charity has lost it pure benevolence purpose from the beginning.

Often, we just couldn’t help but we buying the things that we don’t need, we offer our blood, give money to those charity programs or any case we encounter everyday with the thoughts that somehow it may helping others people, and we think we had did the right thing. However, have we ever know or just think that what would those miserable people think about our action? Does it come from a benevolence purpose or something else? Did they feel happy or they feel their self-respectful has being hurt, feel more pitiful? Did those action has effect, to help them overcome hard time, and continue live on by their own, or they continue to depend on those charity program?

One more thing, many people may disagree with me, in my opinion, life is nothing but a real game. A game, has its own rule, has its own challenge for those who playing it. A problem, difficult time we encounter everyday is just a part of life game, to finish it, we must go on steps by steps, from easy to hard, based on our ability, and a problem will show off to challenge us. A charity, in a view of gamer, is nothing but a cheating. It just happened to help them get through those difficult challenges and give them nothing else to learn. Someday, these challenge may occurs again and again to make sure that the gamer has finish it themselves.

In general, everything has advantage and disadvantage, nothing perfect, charity is no exception. Even though it brings the contemporary benefit for those people who get in a tough time, the problem still there, it just gives them a fish, not teach them how to fish properly.

OMEGLE

January 23, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Omegle (http://omegle.com) is a kind of web that allows you to chat with another person whom you know nothing about him or her, in other word, a stranger, just like its slogan: Talk to strangers!

Now you must have wondered what a web like this can do for you. The answer is very simple. It was made with only one purpose, or two, or three, whatever, not that I care, to make use of the conversations between people through out the world to relieve the stress that they have built up for a long time because of their jobs, their school or whatever happened in their daily life; or to find themselves a soul-mate, or even batter, a lover. To the people who are still lonely (including me) in this cruel and unfair world, where they have done their best but still haven’t got anyone who can cure their soul, yet those who do nothing and still get what they want. Isn’t it unfair? Since when our world has become a crazy world filled with stupid and good-for-nothing people like this? When will the scientists find the answer for this damn society? When will… just kidding!! It was not a bad joke, was it? Okay, let’s get back to the topic! We have gone so far. Anyways, you also have to be careful, because you don’t always get the result that you like when using this web. It may become a counteraction. There is a time when a son and his mother chatted with each other, which neither of them, naturally, know absolutely nothing about that fact. So, in the end, when they find out about it, you must have imagined how awkward it became, right? Just look at the picture below!

When I looked at this picture, I was rolling on the floor laughing (ROFL). Oh my god! What a damn funny coincidence (lol)!! Anyways, just be careful so that you won’t get in the same situation like them (actually, please do so because I like to see how it will look like_ me thinking while whistling).

So, this can, indeed, also count as a stress-relieving method, can’t it. While living in this society, where everyday may become boring because it has been repeated again, again, again, and again, we need some moment like this, right? And because of that, let’s use this website. Together, we will… Opps, I did it again. Sorry, I mean that we should use this website to make our life more enjoyable and to make all of our stress disappear. Ah, this may look like an ad, but it’s actually not one. So, just use it, everyone. You will eventually become fond of it like me. Okay, I will bid you guys goodbye here. Adiós everyone. See you again!!

The big problems of big city !!!

January 22, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Nowadays, many people tend to prefer a life in the urban city because of many opportunities that it brings to them, such as: job, career, the entertainment, good education, and better standard of living, etc…However, the life in the urban city is also very stressful and busy. It makes people have to be hard-working and compete with each other a lot to survive in this city. Moreover, one of the biggest problems of the urban city is dense population because more and more people tend to go to the city to find jobs and make a living day by day. The overpopulation creates many worrying problems in our society nowadays.

. First of all, one of the problems that the society in the urban city has to face is unemployment. So many people want to seek a job in this extremely competitive city makes the supply of employment is surplus while the demand for employment cannot meet its supply. People become jobless and can’t afford their own living and their own family. As the result, the standard of living decrease dramatically which leads to the falling in consumers purchasing index and lower GDP, the economic growth of country is degraded. The shortage of the employment also creates a lot of bad consequences in terms of economic and social sides, including: robbing, opium addiction, and so on.

The second problem of dense population is the pollution, such as: air pollution, water pollution, etc…So many traffic release fumes into the air make it polluted and tons of garbage, litter that is released from the daily life haven’t been treated make the air and the water become polluted day by day. In addition, the pollution affects the health of people a lot, it can create some disease for people, such as: weak lung because inhaling too much fume and dusk, and some disease related to people’s respiratory system.

Some other problems of dense population are that: the degradation of infrastructure in society, exhausting resources, traffic jam, stressed lives, illiteracy, the poverty and so forth. All of the above problems resulted from dense population in the urban city.

Criminal at young age

January 17, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Recently, the criminal has raised, the majority were minorities, who are going to school, that makes a pain and a big question for society.

In the pass, the crimes that minorities violated were stealing, aggression, quarrel. Nowadays, the cases are more serious, such as fighting with weapon, stealing big property, even raping, murdering, buying and selling cocaine etc.

There are many reasons causing the crime violation of people at young age, but according to experts’ appraisal, the less attention of family was the main reason.

There are so many parents indulge their children so much that them give their children so much money without control.  So many mothers were surprised when they saw their children at the court because they were too busy with their works so they didn’t pay attention to their children.

Families which are so poor and violence is also a cause of violation crime of young people. They were effect by the family, such as they saw their father quarreled and hit their mother, their souls were hurt and they tend to be more violent more than others, they also were pushed out of school and . These kids are easily to entice to criminal bands.

Besides, education in our schools is very poor, we are not pay attention and appreciate the importance of this. The subject of ethic is general, not clear and not realistic, and it’s just a sub subject, less appreciated in school. Pupils have not enough chance to participate in outdoor activity; all they know is just theories.

Another side of the reason of the increasing the criminal is that the development of economic and internet. Many pupils concern on chatting, surfing the internet more than going to school. They like playing violence games that no department can control this. And websites of sex are so many and easy to access, that’s why more and more young people have sex soon and more than ever before.

Everything begins with a lie; an examination shows that 22% pupils in primary lie to their parents, 50% in elementary, 64% in high school.

Statistic shows that the awareness of ethic in a part of pupils in school are decreasing, more and more pupils like using luxurious thing and forget the value of ethic because of the less attention of family.

To limit the number of criminal at young age, we have to encourage the education of knowledge for pupils not only in theory like math, history, English etc, but also in social knowledge, sex education, help them aware the cause and the consequence of social evil and help them find interesting in study, not be engaged by bad friends. Besides, we have to develop the law that concern with protection and raising children. Every family has to pay attention on children and treat them by love more than by material.

Brands for Who???

January 16, 2010 · 3 Comments

Nowadays, Vietnamese’s standard of life become higher and more modern. There are many expensive cars on the streets, many villas and advanced apartments are built and especially people dress very luxurious stuff. Of course, not all of Vietnamese have good conditions to chase the famous Brands but according to Brand names’ development in Vietnam, we have to accept that Vietnamese are getting familiar with Brands through each day. So the questions are: What kind of people use Brands, Why are Brands so expensive and How do people use Brands?

Firstly, Brands are for the rich. People who are cultured people have knowledge and high income such as businessman, singers, actors, models, or soccer players… They belong to upper class have strong influence and private lifestyles. Their incomes must be at least five thousands USD per month to allow them to buy Brand stuff. Everyday, we read some kind of news like: soccer player Cong Vinh buys a convertible car or singer Thanh Thao went to shopping in LV store in London etc. Singers like Thanh Thao, Dam Vinh Hung or Hong Nhung are willing to spend thousands dollar for what Brands they love. Man often like some Brands such as: belt, wallet, shoes, sun glasses and cars. In contrast, women love clothes, shoes, handbags or perfume. Some famous Brands had came to Vietnam are Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Burberry, D&C, Armani and Versace. For businessman, Porches, Rolls-Royce, BMW, Ferrari or Bentley are the most luxury cars they want for their collections. You have to be heard about Cuong “ dollar “ who has a lamborghini collection in his garage and also a private jet. These are just some typical samples of people who dare to pay 2000$ for a small handbag.

In a general understanding, brands are the product brand name, expensive and produced with a small amount, just to serve a certain class. It will be very wasteful if someone who bought brands but does not understand the intangible value of its brand and not understanding why it is expensive. Everybody supposes that brands are so expensive. It’s absolutely right. If you wear Clarks shoes, you will not feel paint even in the first time or uncomfortable in hot season. On a real Lacoste T-shirt, the teeth of hundreds of crocodile embroidery are as sharp as each other. Similarly, someone told a funny story that on each McDonald bread, you can count 173 sesame seeds. It means the accuracy of their level of perfection is hard to believe.

Brands are expensive totally because of it’s quality. Quality is the first factor that any manufacturers want to reach. For brand, quality represents it’s prestige. Durability of the products is better than a same normal one 5-7 times. Most of them are made of the best materials. Handbag, belt, wallet, shoes, leather jacket are real leather. Materials from Italy, UK are used to design fashionable clothes. Watches from Switzerland are the best and cosmetic or perfume of France is so amazing. Technology is also plays an important role in creating a quality product. Only a tiny wrong, the product will be cut in the machine immediately. So, when you see just a small bad detail on the product, do not buy it, that’s the fake one. If you are convinced to buy a Longines watch with the cheap price 135$ which is very perfect and beautiful at the outside. You were cheated, because it’s easy to buy the same one at Sai Gon square with just 20$ and the real Longines watch at Diamond plaza is cost not less than 1,200$.

Brand value of a product is intangible and it’s hard to formulate the price. No one can answer that how much does Dolce&Gabbana, Versace or Burberry cost. You also can not say why a Rolls-Royce is more expensive than a Toyota although they have the same functionality and using value. The “more-expensive” is the brand value. It can be known as including costs need to build the Brand name. Did you know that, Volkswagen had to spend billions USD to introduce it to people. There are many budgets that producer have to withdrawn to build a brand image, just for one goal- the whole world know about their products. And all the fees are included in the product’s price. That’s why, brands are expensive.

People have many reason to use brand products: to more confident, to prove themselves, for love or because they need stylist clothes and things for communication or performance. Those who use brands most are artists, super stars. Public performance makes they have to impress everyone in a different and creative way, or just to satisfy their interested in brands. One typical sample is Mr. Dam, he never considers how much money to spend for a costume, as long as he likes it. Each time Dam Vinh Hung performs on the stage, the total cost of the costume he’s wearing is about 10,000- 20,000 dollars. He usually went shopping when he had the chance to travel or perform abroad and every time coming back he also carried 6 or 7 suitcases.

Need to look elegant and charming in front of partners, businessman spend money on brands not less than artists. They use brands a visiting – card to introduce themselves, it helps them to communicate with customers, to impress partners their rich and powerful, to build them the best rank, to show that they have the abilities to work and make high profit, and reach to the better standard of life.

Last but not least, even though you love brands or own brands, you have to keep in mind that: value of one luxurious thing does not express the real value of a person. You are charming because of what you’ve got inside.

Social issues

January 16, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Last night, I just saw paper which said about criminal in My hometown. I am very surprised! If criminal happen in Ho Chi Minh city . It is normal, because  there is a big city where people come to build career. My hometown is small and from ancient to now. It is quiet and safety for not only habitants but also tourist

The newspaper said that criminal  began to go poor or small province where they can live and protect them. Because police in HCM are finding them. Hiding in small town, they continue stealing and ready kill people who protect them to robby. Habitants in Thanh Thai street still remember a robber which happened two years ago. Robber killed young man who stopped robber when robber got box of goal. It was dangerous! For fifteen minutes,  police to come place. However, the robber went out. And police found very difficult. As a result, robber death penalty. And this made our life did not feel comfortable. Everybody scared. People began to forget it.  Another robber came hometown and stealing happen.

Many robbers come our life we should question why do many robbers live our life? They like stealing or another reasons. Of course, two question have two answers. Firstly, Question one, how do you think about our life? It is not good. Economics in Viet Nam and other countries decrease, people become unemployment. They can not find other works while standard of living is worst and worst. Difficult follow difficult, they still accept. Secondly, some one does not want to work but like a lot of money. They become robbers. Each of person has each of ways become robbers which is damaged of society.

We are still students, we do not help more for society. However, knowledge which we have from school or social teams, can help our keep away bad things of society.
