In life nowadays, when we want to buy something, we must have one thing called “Money”. So what is money? And why is it important to our life?

In some documents, money is anything that is generally accepted as payment for goods or services and repayment for debts. The main functions of money are distinguished as: a medium of exchange, a unit of account, a store of value, and occasionally, a standard of deferred payment… There are many ways to define what money is, but we can understand basically that money is the things (papers, coins, … ) which we use to buy what we want.

Whole of people have money, but why are there someone that we call rich people? And why are there someone that we call poor? And the rest is normal. We divide them base on their income. Normal are who have enough money to spend for their necessary requirements for life, but don’t have leftovers for luxury goods. Rich people are who have large leftovers to buy everything they want, beside necessary requirements. And the last one, poor people, are who cannot pay for all requirements. The causes of the gap between the rich the poor are lack of education, life conditions and living standards, income,…

But in this essay, I don’t want to mention about the gap, our main subject is the effects of money to a human’s life.
How much money do you need to be happy? Almost people will answer:” Enough to pay for life requirements”. But when they have money, they want more. Despite paying lip-service to the notion that money and material things are secondary to family, love, and friends, people all around the world still pursue money as if it is the only thing that can make them happy. Everyone seems to be working harder and harder for higher pay at the expense of spending time with their families. People are spending more than ever before, and going deeper and deeper into debt each year. We want bigger apartments in better neighborhoods, the newest model cars, and bigger wide-screen TVs. It is “The good life”, and more and more people are clamoring to get it. But does having and spending a lot of money really make us happier?

Researchers found out a long ago that the link between the income and the happiness is rather weak for most people. We know once we have enough money to meet basic needs, having more money will help us to enjoy our life more.
Maybe it is right with someone, but not with the others. If you usually read newspaper, you can know in some countries, such as North Americans have twice as much spending power as they did in the 1950s, people today are ten times more likely to be depressed. Japan and Korea have become some of the wealthiest countries in the world, but they also have the third and fourth highest rates of suicide respectively, while countries with some of the highest rates of poverty often have the lowest rates of suicide.
Why do more money and more things fail to make us happier? The problem is that we quickly get used to having more money and new things. We may feel excited when we get a penthouse or a luxury car but we soon get bored and it does not seem special anymore because when we hear that our friends or relatives now have bigger houses or more expensive cars. We become dissatisfied with what we have.

Sociologists show out that to earn a large amount of money, we often have to sacrifice the things that truly make us happy. Such strong relationships such as a loving family, a marriage and a good friend are among the most powerful predictors of happiness and satisfaction with life. When you want to make more money, you have to work harder and spend more time for working, so you do not have enough time for other things. You must focus strongly on your job, therefore, you do not have any energy left for your loved ones and hobbies.

In sum up, the main problem is not about how much money you have, it is all about the way that you spend your money. This is up to you .But you should consider carefully, so that you will not regret about what you did in the past.

Do not let money control your life, be the master of money.
